Teacher Information
Teachers play an important role in helping students discover NZLO. Schools may share competition information with eligible students, encourage interested students to register, and help students understand the competition format and key dates.
NZLO is suitable for students who enjoy languages, puzzles, logic, mathematics, computer science, debating, writing, or analytical challenges. Students do not need to have studied linguistics or speak multiple languages before participating.
Competition Format
NZLO is an individual problem-solving competition. Students solve self-contained linguistic puzzles using the information provided in the questions.
The competition is administered in English and assesses students’ logical reasoning, pattern recognition, language awareness, analytical thinking, and written explanation.
Teacher Guide
Teachers can support NZLO participation by:
1. Share NZLO with students
Introduce the competition to students who enjoy logic, language, puzzles, problem-solving, mathematics, computer
2. Encourage students to register
Students can register online through the official NZLO registration link or QR code.
3. Explain that no prior knowledge is required
Students do not need to know linguistics or speak multiple languages. All necessary information is provided in the questions.
4. Remind students of key dates
Teachers may help students stay aware of registration, competition dates, and result announcements.
5. Support interested students with practice
Teachers may share sample questions or encourage students to try linguistics-style puzzles before the competition.
